Is St Augustine Safe to Live? – [Crime Stats]

This is one of the main questions that I hear in regards to living in St Johns County.  Today we are going to cover the St Johns County Crime Statistics from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.  We will compare St Johns county to its surrounding counties and major cities in Florida; Tampa Bay, Miami, Orlando.  This is important information to know whether you are moving to St Augustine or you are currently living in St. Augustine Florida.  Is St Augustine Safe to you Live?  I will let you decide.

If you are looking at Florida as a whole.  You actually see a decrease in crime.  You can see it is down 6.8% from 2018 to 2019.  That is a huge jump overall.  You can also see that the population has been growing and in 2019 went up by 6.6%  (This is the most recent data).  Considering the increase in Population you would expect an increase in crime; I would venture to say that 2020, 2021 numbers our population grew by 7-10%.  

So what about St Johns County? If you compare it to the neighboring counties, per capita St Johns County is one of the least in terms of crime. If you look from 2018 to 2019 you can see that total crime rate is down 15.6% and arrests are down 6%. How do our neighbors look?
